The full description
The Ridge Frame 5200 is a two-part system: an aluminium-stay frame with a load shelf, and an 85-litre bag that clips to it. The bag comes off in about twenty seconds, which is the point — you leave it at the kill site, load meat directly onto the shelf, and put the bag back on outboard of the load.
The belt is a wrap design rather than a moulded pad, because a moulded pad only fits the hips it was moulded for. Frame stays are 7075-T6 and are meant to be bent to your back; instructions and a bending guide are in the box.
This is a pack for hunts where everything you need is on your back and everything you kill leaves the same way. If your hunt starts and ends within a mile of a truck, it is more pack than you need — the Day Bag 1800 is the honest answer.
Bought for
Multi-day hunts on foot where you expect to pack an animal out.
Not for
Day hunts from a truck, or anyone under about 16 inches of torso — the short frame is the floor, and a pack that is too long transfers nothing to your hips.
Field notes
- 01Fit the belt first, on your hips, with weight in the bag. The shoulder straps are a stabiliser, not a carrier.
- 02Bend the stays to your back before the first hunt, not on the mountain. Cold aluminium bends fine; do it at the truck.
- 03For a meat haul: pull the bag, load quarters on the shelf against the frame, re-clip the bag over the top.
- 04Load lifters should sit at roughly 45°. If they are flat, the torso is set too long.

Construction, care and warranty
- Construction
- 500D Cordura nylon main body with 210D ripstop lid and pocketing; 7075-T6 aluminium stays; HDPE framesheet; closed-cell EVA belt and lumbar padding; UTX-Duraflex hardware throughout; bar-tacked at every load-bearing junction; all seams double-stitched and bound.
- Care
- Brush off dry, wash by hand in cold water with mild soap, hang to dry out of sun. Do not machine wash — the framesheet does not like it. Zips run better with a wax stick than with any spray.
- Warranty
- Repaired or replaced for the life of the pack against anything that fails in normal hunting use, including buckles, zips and seams.
